Student of the Week...Peter Davis

Current city of Residence:
Los Angeles, CA (since 04/2003) but soon (June 29) to be Charlotte, NC
What have you been up to the past 10 years?
I went to Virginia Tech after graduating and majored in Mass Communication. At VT, I met an amazing woman from Powhatan named Sarah and married her two weeks after we graduated in 2001. We stuck around in Blacksburg for a while and then moved back to Richmond for a year before packing it up and moving to Los Angeles (David Casler is out here too). We've been here for almost 4 years now and since then I went back to school at Cal State Northridge and got my special education teaching certificate and we had two daughters, Kyla and Avery. I've been teaching 9th grade English at Santa Monica High School for the past two and half years and I love it. I'm also in the process of starting my own photography business on the side www.peterdavisphotography.com. We've had our fill of LA, though, and we bought a house in Charlotte down the street from Megan Kelly (Creehan) and we're moving at the end of June!

Favorite MBK memory:
Soccer definitely. Followed closely by Model UN, good times with great friends, a fantastic senior year, and I'm pretty sure I learned some stuff from some pretty top-notch teachers in there somewhere.

The thing that people would be most surprised to hear about you:
I majored in writing and I teach English! The guy who never really ever read an entire book in high school is teaching kids how to read and write. Funny how things turn out.

Student of the Week....Dacia Pelligrino

Dacia Pelligrino is your student of the week!

Current city of residence: Warrington, Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia)

A brief update of what she's been up to the past 10 years:
Right after H.S. I went to George Mason U. for two years. I decided to put college on hold for awhile and joined the United States Navy in 2000. During my enlistment I was fortunate enough to see places such as Hawaii, Singapore, Australia, and even Bahrain. I was deployed to the Gulf for six months on an amphibious assault ship during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. I had many different responsibilities and jobs while in the Navy, the two most memorable jobs being a technician and operator for the Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) Gatling gun, and a security force team leader and trainer. The Navy gave me the great opportunity to explore not only other parts of the world, but other parts of the country as well--I've lived in Washington (near Seattle), Illinois (near Chicago), San Diego, CA, Virginia Beach, and most recently Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia). I was honorably discharged last year and am now back at school full-time at Penn State University. I will be graduating this May and plan to go to law school in the fall. I've taken a couple of exciting trips in the past couple of years. Two years ago I went on a 6-day adventure in Italy, touring cities such as Naples, Rome, Florence, and Venice. Last year I enjoyed a 10-day visit to Ireland as part of a spring break study abroad trip at Penn State. While I don't have a family of my own yet, I am very excited because in just a few short months I will become an Aunt!

Favorite MBK memory:
I don't think it's possible to single out one memory as a favorite. I had so much fun throughout those four years--but one thing I miss (and took for granted) is getting to see my friends everyday.

The thing that people would be most surprised to hear about you:
Probably the two things previously mentioned: 1) Not only did I join the Navy but I worked on weapon systems and became an expert marksman and security force leader. (Not something I think many people could picture me doing). 2) I have been doing surprisingly well academically. Not only do I want to go to law school, but I've done very well at Penn State, being inducted into two separate National Honor Societies (Alpha Sigma Lambda and Phi Kappa Phi).
